Our Staff

Neil Sauer, DPT, owner and operator

Physical Therapist, Certified Health Coach and company owner Neil Sauer graduated from Saginaw Valley State University in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science. During that time he played four years of collegiate soccer.

Neil earned a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Central Michigan University in 2006.

He has taken continuing education courses for Stanley Paris manual therapy techniques and a Gary Gray Functional Training course. He has also taken selective functional movement assessment courses with the North American Sports Medical Institute (NASMI).

Neil’s treatment philosophy goes beyond reducing pain and restoring motion/mobility. He has a passion for health and wellness and for improving the quality of life of his clients, and works holistically with them to ensure their injuries do not reoccur and that his clients enjoy optimal functionality. He strives to help his patients live more active, mobile and healthy lives knowing that they don’t have to rely on pain medications, injections or surgery.

In his personal life, he is married and has two sons. During spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, fishing, spending time outdoors and leading an active and healthy life. Neil also likes to read as much as possible when he finds/makes time. He primarily reads books on leadership, business and special forces.

An avid exercise enthusiast, he continually works to improve his own health and wellness.

Nolan McIntosh, DPT, ATC

Nolan McIntosh, DPT, ATC graduated from Lake Superior State University in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science with concentration in Sports Medicine and an Associates in Health and Fitness Specialist. Prior to continuing his education at Andrews University where he received a Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2007, Nolan was an Adjunct Professor at Delta College, Southwestern Michigan College, and taught Athletic Training at Michigan State University. Nolan is currently a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and National Athletic Trainers Association.

Nolan first started practicing in the Lansing area and now has been in the Mid-Michigan area for several years. Nolan joined Functional Advantage in order to practice physical therapy in an environment that embodies his philosophy of treatment.

His professional interests include orthopedics, sports medicine, manual therapy, and sport specific rehab for local university/high school teams and clubs.  He has taken several continuing education courses working with functional rehabilitation and most of Michigan State’s Osteopathic Medicine coursework.

In his spare time, Nolan enjoys staying healthy, being outdoors and spending time with his family. He and his wife, Mindy, with three daughters Haylee, Ava, and Naomi reside in Freeland.

Erica Moeller, Physical Therapist Assistant

Erica graduated from Delta College in 2016 with a degree in Applied Science specializing in Physical Therapist Assistant. She has taken continuing education courses covering the Mulligan Concepts for the Upper Body and is always seeking to learn and grow.

She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association on both a national and state level.

Erica is passionate about people and with that passion comes her desire to help people improve their quality of life. She has seen first hand the impact that physical therapy can have. Allowing people to live more active, mobile and healthy lives without having to rely on pain medication, injections or surgery.

In her spare time she enjoys camping with her husband and dog Wednesday, going to the movies, fishing, traveling the United States (especially Hawaii) and spending time outdoors with her family and friends.

Lauren O’Farrell, Office Assistant

Lauren has come to us from the retail world. She has always had a passion for customer service, meeting and helping people.

She has come to love the office setting, where she can focus on getting to know new people and being able to build relationships with patients.

In Lauren’s spare time she loves spending time with her family, reading, camping, and traveling.  Summer time you can most likely find Lauren and her family at their property in Rose City, fishing, swimming, tubing, and camping. Lauren and her husband have been married for six years, they have two children and one more on the way! If she isn’t busy with her growing family, you can find her working in her yard or reading a good book.  

McKaely Ludka, Office Assistant

McKaely graduated from Saginaw Valley State University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Health Science, where she was a collegiate athlete in track and field and discovered her passion for helping people.

She enjoys working in a small clinic setting where she can create a welcoming atmosphere and build relationships with patients.

In her spare time, you can find McKaely making the drive to Detroit to attend Tigers and Red Wings games, or to Grand Rapids to watch her two bothers compete at Grand Valley State University and Aquinas College in track and field and baseball. She also enjoys traveling with her fiancé and their dog, Murphy, to her hometown of Traverse City, MI where she spends time boating, fishing, and visiting with her family and friends.
